Ghorepani Poonhill Trek

For those with only a few days to spare, the Ghorepani trek is a colorful short foray into the Annapurna region. The trail winds through patchwork valleys, dense mossy forests and past icy waterfalls where you can stop to cool your face. Around every corner is a tantalizing glimpse of the high mountains, whole horizons of which will be revealed to you as you reach the high points of your trek.

Well, Ghorepani means (horse water), and it does not doubt a welcome watering stop for the teams of horse, Mules and ponies that carry loads between Pokhara and Jomsom. The exotic horse/mules caravans, with melodious bells that echo over great distance and wondrous plumes and headdresses on the lead horse, are reminiscent of ancient Tibet. Herded by Tibetan people, who shout up and down the trail, they lend a unique touch to the Jomsom trek.

Ghorepani Deurali (which means pass), at 2834m offers you a spectacular panorama of Dhaulagiri I (8167m.), Tukuche, Nilgiri, Annapurna-south and Baraha Sikhar (formerly known as Glacier). Early morning excursion to Poon Hill (3210m), about an hours climb, provides an even better, unobstructed view of Mt.
