Frozen Lake Trek 6 Days.

The Gosainkunda Frozen Lake trek begins from Dhunche, the headquarters of Rasuwa district. It is approximately 10 hours’ drive from Kathmandu to Dhunche and after 2 days climb comes to sacred lake “Gosainkund”. This lake is situated at the height of 4312m. The best and challenging part of the trek is the crossing of Laurebina Pass (3910m) on your way to Gosainkunda. The trail and pass affords splendid views of Lantang Himalayan ranges including Langtang Lirung (7234m), Langtang Ri (7205m), Dorje Lakpa (6966m).

Gosainkund Lake is one of the most popular pilgrimage destinations for Hindu and Buddhists as well. It is sacred lakes. It is regarded as the greatest lake among the three main lakes. The other two lakes are Saraswatikund and Bhairabkunda. According to the Hindu legend, Shiva created Gosainkund when he pierced a glacier with his trident to obtain water to quench his thirst after having swallowed a poison that threatened to destroy the world. There are nine other lakes surrounding the Gosainkunda and once a year in August, the festival of Janai Purnima, hundreds of Hindu pilgrims gather here during the Full Moon to take a holy bath in the lake. Along this section of trail there is extraordinary views of Himalayas. It is a perfect trek for those who seek for adventure and the beauty of nature.
